Letter From The
Editor
Welcome to the August issue of the
Big Bend Flyer. The big news last week was the crash of a
FedEX 727
just short of runway 9. There has been
a lot of speculation from people around the airport about what might have
caused the crash but so far there has been no official
word. It was actually a "good landing" since all the people on
board were able to walk away from it.
Our membership at EAA445 continues
to grow and we are in the process of nominating new officers. If you
are interested in becoming an officer or if you would like to nominate
someone else, please come to the next meeting.
We have a very diverse group of pilots in the
Big Bend area and there is no reason we couldn't take on a big
project like building or restoring an airplane. All we need is
people like you who are willing to make it happen.
I hope to see you on Tuesday the
13th.
John Sivyer
Members continue to fly young
people every chance they get. If you take a youngster
between 8-17 years of age flying, don't forget to fill out the form and
send it in. Our club gets credit toward scholarship money which
can be used to send a young person to summer camp in Oshkosh, Wi..
If you need forms, click here
to send an e-mail to John Sivyer, EAA445's Young Eagle
Coordinator.
The Members below are listed in the
EAA log book in Oshkosh, Wi. as having flown kids this

08/07 -TFC Monthly
Meeting, 7:00pm, at Buckhead Brewery, located at 1900 NE
Capital Circle. The featured speaker for the evening will be Scott
O’Brien. As many of you know, Scott is an experienced CFII/MEI who
recently relocated to TLH from Oklahoma City, OK. Scott owns a
beautiful Citabria. Scott’s presentation is called "From Wooden Wings
to WAAS Waypoints.” Scott will be discussing tail wheel
training (full stall landings) and airport arrivals (high performance
airplanes). He will share with us his views on whether the FAA’s
current certification process results in safe and/or complete
pilots. This should lead into a very lively and thought provoking
discussion.
