Built in Dinkslaken, Germany by Walter Extra, the 300S combines superb quality, maximum performance (that exceeds most fighter aircraft) and impeccable engineering into an aerobatic legend. With state-of-the-art carbon fiber wings, tail and control surfaces, a steel tube fuselage, and is powered by a Lycoming 330hp engine, the 300S is the only factory-built aircraft to consistently win against the fabled aerobatic specials of the former Eastern Bloc.

DENVER MIDAIR PROVIDES IMPORTANT LESSONS
The NTSB
recently released the preliminary accident report on a midair collision
that occurred between a Piper PA-31T and a Cessna 172P over Denver on
January 24. The accident killed five on board both aircraft and injured
six on the ground. This accident is one deadly reminder that pilots should
always be aware of the positions of other aircraft around them, regardless
of airspace classification. Always listen to ATC's transmissions to other
pilots, and if another aircraft is being vectored close by, be on high
alert. Also, be particularly careful if climbing in a high-wing aircraft
or descending in a low-wing aircraft. Blind spots in these situations can
lead to two aircraft converging and neither pilot knowing they are in
danger. See the NTSB
accident report or a diagram of the accident
created by the AOPA Air Safety Foundation.

| Big Bend Flying Club |
The Big Bend Flying Club meets on the first Wed of each month @7PM at various resturants around town. There are no membership dues and no real rules except to show up and enjoy some good presentations put on by other local pilots. John Sivyer began coordinating the club activities in January of 2003 after longtime coordinator and 182 owner Angela Green moved to the enviable life of "Leeward Air Ranch" near Ocala. If you are recieving this newsletter you are already on the list to be notified of club meetings and activities.
The April Meeting will be at the China Super Buffett on N. Monroe St.. Kevin Fleming will be talking about airplane partnerships.

Take A Controller Flying
About a year ago Angela Green had an idea to take Controllers flying to show her appreciation for the good job they do keeping us safe. This would also give them a chance to see first hand what its like to "fly in the system at TLH" . Angela brought the idea before the Big Bend Flying Club and since then Angela, Bill Humbert and Terry Fregly have flown controllers.
Last month Terry Fregly flew Controllers Walt Gregulak, Penny Schneider, Bart Countess and Jeff Boyett , in his L-39, one at a time of course.
If you have not flown a controller, consider doing it when you can. We literally put our life in their hands and this would be a good way to say thanks for a job well done. If you have flown a controller, click here to send me some information about the flight (Pictures are welcomed). I will put it in the next newsletter.

Frank Smith distributed and discussed a
membership recruiting handout provided by EAA home office—it was
decided to attach a label to each handout listing local information
specific to Chapter 445 with Frank’s telephone number and the
chapter’s web site, and to provide copies to members at the next
general meeting. David Schamber discussed an opportunity for the Chapter to
purchase silk-screened T-shirts produced by Wakulla High School on
their newly acquired graphic equipment. The chapter would provide
logo and text information and the pay for materials—labor would be
free. This subject will be discussed at the next general
meeting. Frank Smith and Scott O’Brien will meet in the next several
weeks and review the proposed new Chapter bylaws and report to the
membership their recommendations for adoption during the next
general meeting. No other business was discussed… J David Williams, Secretary |

Sun ’n
Fun Celebrates ‘100 Years of Aviation’ April
2-8
The Sun ’n Fun EAA Fly-In launches the
summer flying season April 2-8 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport
in Lakeland, Florida. This year’s event, Sun ’n Fun’s first under
the new Wednesday-through-Tuesday format, will also help launch the
100th anniversary celebration of the Wright brothers’ first powered
flight. The debut of EAA’s 24,000 square-foot “Countdown to Kitty
Hawk” pavilion highlights the 2003 celebration. The pavilion’s main
attraction is EAA’s faithful reproduction of the 1903 Wright Flyer
that will eventually re-create the first flights on December 17 at
Kitty Hawk. Countdown to Kitty Hawk is presented by Ford Motor
Company with supporting sponsorship from Microsoft Flight Simulator
and Eclipse Aviation. For more information about Sun ’n Fun, visit
