MEETING NOTES3-12-02 At the general meeting it was raining cats and dogs and there were still 7 people present 5 members and 2 guests. Members were Marc Matthews, Jim Pierce, Frank Smith, Gar Braun and John Sivyer The guests were Thomas Meares, a 20 year veteran hot air balloon pilot who is looking into building a sport plane and Kevin Fleming, an experienced local aviator who flies a Cessna 182 RG and is interested in building an RV-4.John discussed a request from EAA National that chapter 445 set a goal to fly a certain number of Young Eagles by the end of the year. No goal was set because it is still uncertain how many volunteers we will have. The reason for setting a goal is that EAA would like to fly 1 million youngsters by the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers flight, which is in October of 2003. They have currently flown over 760,000. John also asked that the members consider reducing the yearly membership dues based on a surplus of funds and to encourage new members. Marc suggested we discuss it at a future meeting when more members would be present.Marc discussed the need to form a nominating committee at the June meeting to nominate new officers and to appoint a chair person for the Christmas dinner. The next meeting was moved to 04/16 because of Sun & Fun. Jim made a motion that old club records need to be reviewed and destroyed as needed. Gar second the motion. Jim and Marc will be doing this in the next couple of months. Frank presented an update on the Quincy Fly-in. He passed out some flyers and stickers he had printed . He has arranged to have several guests including a representative from the armed forces. For more information go to the fly-in page. Jim did an excellent job presenting a discussion on weight and balance. He gave several examples of crashes due to pilots not paying attention to this important subject. Jim is one of two chapter Technical Counselors and has a vast knowledge of airplanes and what makes them fly and more importantly, what makes them crash! There will not be a program speaker for the April meeting. We will all be discussing our experiences at Sun & Fun. The May program speaker will be a guest of Franks who served as a G-3 intelligence officer with General Patton in WWII. Join EAA 445
