World-Record Adventure
with CarolAnn Garratt

Follow CarolAnn as she tells how she and Carol Foy circumnavigate this world of ours in 8 days. Hear all about the flight and what's involved in planning an endeavor that touches multiple time zones, governments and continents. Learn what went right and what went wrong. Share the experience of being in a small cockpit for 158 hours, leaving the plane only eight times to re-fuel and stretch (their ground time was only 46 hours). What did they eat? How did they go to the bathroom? How did they get permission to cross all those countries? And, most important, what inspired Garratt and Foy to accomplish this world record?

EAA445's Official Electronic Newsletter

Jan 2010

Happy New Year, I am excited about our first meeting this year with our guest speaker CarolAnn Garratt.  I was fortunate enough to get to see her presentation while in Oshkosh last summer.  Everyone who attended was thrilled with her retelling of a great adventure.   She has video footage of some of her landings that make you feel like you are on the flight.   Please spread the word and bring a friend along if you can.

I was thinking it might be cool to try a newsletter again.  I would welcome any help or ideas you might have.

I hope everyone gets to fly more this year.....John

I found this on the web about Chris.  Pretty cool!

Solo from Patty Wagstaff by Patty Wagstaff 05/04/09
Chris Rudd, my new ferry pilot/crew chief, soloed today and I wasn't even nervous. As an instructor I don't believe in getting nervous. If the student isn't ready to solo or take their checkride, then you shouldn't send them off. I had great confidence in Chris after flying with him in a two seat Extra 300L a couple of times. After his flight, Denny, our operations man, poured a bottle of ice cold water on him. He didn't cringe at the cold because he'd been sweating...Good job Chris! We are off to Branson on Wednesday. I fly the Cirrus, Chris in the Extra for his first formation cross country flight.

REMINDER - FLIGHT 1549 DOCUMENTARY AIRS ON TLC SUNDAY NIGHT
Harrison Ford Narrates Brace for Impact: The Chesley B. Sullenberger Story
Harrison Ford and Sully Sullenberger
Former EAA Young Eagles Chairman, actor Harrison Ford, provides the narration for a new documentary that features one of the new co-chairmen who succeeded him. Brace for Impact, scheduled to premiere January 10 at 9 p.m. EDT (8 p.m. Central) on The Learning Channel (TLC), examines the landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in New York's Hudson River a year ago by Capt. Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger and First Officer Jeff Skiles. They safely ditched the Airbus A320 airliner on the river after a bird strike caused the plane to lose power in both engines on January 15, 2009.
