FLYING FOR CHARITY... from AvWeb
It's that time of year for reflecting on what we've achieved with a year's worth of time on earth, and maybe making resolutions that in the year to come will make us better citizens of the world. For those so endowed and those so inclined, aviation offers plenty of opportunities to help out. Angel Flight America Network recruits volunteer pilots to provide air transport for needy medical patients and their families. Air Care Alliance offers an extensive listing of varied volunteer opportunities in aviation, for both pilots and non-pilots. And if your empathies extend beyond fellow humans to your fellow creatures, SkyArk needs pilots to help transport animals and wildlife, or you could fly environmental missions for LightHawk. EAA445's Official Electronic Newsletter

January  2005

2004 was a year of change for EAA  445. We welcomed many new members, had our first Fly-in at TLH , brought back the Pancake breakfasts.and had several fly-outs. We  finished out the year strong with a visit from Captain Winston Scott and his wife Marilyn at our Christmas dinner.

It was also a year of loss as one of our most active members Frank Smith passed away.  Frank will be missed but his spirit of volunteering lives on within the chapter.

I encourage everyone to attend our first meeting of the year on Jan 11th.  Members and guests will be asked to share their most memorable flying experiences of 2004.  This is a chance to tell your own story and hear some very interesting stories from other Pilots.  There will be free pizza and soft drinks. You can also pay your dues which are due this month.

Best wishes for a safe and prosperous new year and keep those ideas coming.

John

AirFest 2005-Tallahassee, Fl.

Dixie Wing Commemorative Air Force will be in Tallahassee.

“Flight-worthy airplanes have a soul like no other.”

The Commemorative Air Force is a non-profit organization with approximately 11,000 members, over 145 vintage airplanes, and over 70 Wings, Squadrons, and Detachments located throughout the U.S. and countries abroad. The 83rd unit of the Commemorative Air Force is called Dixie Wing and is based at Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia (approximately 25 miles outside of Atlanta).

It is their mission to preserve history by restoring and maintaining, in flying condition, actual combat planes used in World War II and house them in museum facilities for permanent display and protection as a tribute of the thousands of men and women who built, serviced and flew them. Dixie Wing has a collection six vintage planes with two of them in restoration. The planes of Dixie Wing fly in air shows throughout the Southeast.
