It's hard to believe our Christmas dinner is less than two weeks away.  This year should be a special event because our old friend Winston Scott has graciously agreed to give a talk. Winston a former Asronaut, Retired Naval Captain , Jet pilot and Saratoga driver is a gifted speaker with a wealth of aviation knowledge.

And as hard as I tried to get Marc Dupuis to sit back, relax and let someone else do the cooking, he was adamant that he take care of it again this year so you know you are in for a feast! (click here for the menu)  He has even hired some help this time.

If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, or if you have never been, this would be a good time to come visit with us.
Bring your spouse or a friend if you can.

Please take a few minutes to fill out our reservation form, so we know how much food to buy.

I look forward to seeing you on the 15th.

Happy Holidays,

John

Airfest Update

John, Dave and I met with Jim Durwin, Assistant Superintendent - Airport  Operations, yesterday morning to begin planning for AirFest 2005.  Steve Leggett from the TLH tower also attended.

The meeting went well, Jim stated that he is a big supporter of what we
are doing.  He had no objections to any of our requests:  expanding the
AirFest area to the north, R/C and ultralight flight demos, additional
golf cart usage during the event, using the old terminal entrance,
parachute jumping.  However, he will need to confirm with his manager
for final approval.

I also gave Jim our DoD 2535 form (req'd for military participation).
He said he would get back to us on all of our issues in a week to week
and a half.

We also met with Bob Van Riper at Flightline and discussed our plans.
He supports our plans, as well, and was agreeable to our using the old
terminal for an entrance and indoor exhibit area, as long as we could
secure the rear exit and keep people from wandering in the storage area.

The only (rather large) fly in the ointment is that the City is starting
a repaving project of ramps and taxiways that will impact all of the
taxiways along 18-36.  The work is supposed to be complete by spring but
we know what happened last year with the runway paving.  We will need to
seek assurance from the airport that the taxiways in our area will be
usable on May 14-15.

Picture of the Month

I took this Friday 26th near Shell Point. Note the reflection on the wing. Some one did a great detail job on 94X...it looks like new inside and out.  Kelley Phillips

In case you have not already seen this, this is a great video in two parts of the Russian Sukhoi SU-35/37.
Don't turn it off when the first part goes black, wait for the second part. There is sound and you should be able to enlarge this to full screen. Good stuff and you get to see the "Cobra" maneuver several times, where the aircraft pitches up, nearly stops moving forward, then continues on its original flight path. Takes several minutes to view the entire thing.

Enjoy
